Green City Market Moves Outside Tomorrow, With Some Changes

GCM OutdoorsA sure sign of spring, the Green City Market moves outdoors tomorrow, leaving behind its winter confines in the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. The same vendors will continue to populate the market, but with a few logistical changes. Here’s what’s new for the 2012 outdoor season.

  1. Produce and meat vendors are now grouped together toward the center of the market along the footpaths that were paved last year.
  2. Prepared food vendors will set up shop on the northside of the park in what’s been dubbed the “food court.”
  3. There will be an increased focus on composting waste, meaning all vendors have the chance to compost organic waste. All servingware for food will also be compostable.
  4. Chefs’ BBQ tickets go on sale on May 5, and will be available for purchase at the market.
  5. All vendors are now third-party certified for sustainable practices. Because of the difference in certifying meat, produce, and dairy, third party organizations vary, but GCM says that all the participating vendors have been cleared by a third party as sustainable. Questions about what that means? Just ask the famers when you see them on Saturday morning.
