Dose – River East Indoor Market

DosemarketOne Sunday a month food and fashion have somethings in common. They're both trendy, fun to shop for and they're both featured at River East's Dose Market. The market showcases a handful of artisinal or organic eateries as well as a number of small boutiques and vintage shops. While there is a $8 fee for tickets, these aren't the types of vendors you'll find at just any street fair.

The food vendors seemed to be trying to upstage each other. After sampling a butternut squash tea cake from Floriole,  delicious, I moved on to  a candy bar from Mayana Chocolate. I still regret not buying one of their Dose bars,  a delicate organic Twix-style creamy chocolate bar. Homemade nutella marshmallows were roasted on the spot at 240sweet. With handmade graham crackers to boot, this is one vendor definitely worth checking out.

I tried an incredible layer bar from Defloured (does a more adorable name exist for a gluten-free bakery?) and some out of this world salted caramel sauce (from the eponymously named) Salted Caramel. An absolute favorite had to the the most unusual and delicious flavors of preserves, like plum apple hibiscus and fig earl grey from Rare Bird Preserves. They would make the perfect topping for toast, scones or even Greek yogurt. The passion fruit curd was addictive.

X-Marx and Jo Snow Syrups put on the biggest show, with old time soda shop apparel complete with paper hats. They doled out flavor-packed sodas and some truly unique, mouthwatering food. I enjoyed a grilled veggie sandwich complete with walnuts, figs, gruyere and some quinoa-caramelized onion patty. Pair it with a fresh root beer or cream soda.

After all that food, who has time for fashion? I certainly didn't. If you missed this past market, get your dose at the next Dose Market on November 6th with a new line up of vendors.
