Lively Water Whiskey Festival
With snow in the forecast for this weekend, mojito season is over. It’s time to bring out the Scotch, and we’ve got just the event to kick off your spirituous season.
Chicago’s newest whiskey festival, Lively Water, will hold their inaugural gathering this Saturday, November 15 at the Field Museum downtown. Distillers and brand ambassadors from around the world will be on hand to offer samples, talk about their whiskeys, and educate guests, giving you a great opportunity to try dozens of different spirits without having to invest in dozens of bottles. I’m a big fan of events like this one both for the novice and the expert — the folks behind the brands are always generous with their time and their whiskey and are as happy to introduce a new product as they are to talk details of the industry.
The Midwest will be well represented at this event, with hometown distillers like Koval, Few and Chicago Distilling, as well as near-neighbors like Journeyman, New Holland, and JK Williams. For those with more international tastes though, there will be plenty of that too: Teeling Irish whiskey, Lark from Australia and single malt Scotches from Aberlour, Balblair and Bunnahabhain will also be flowing.
General admission for the event costs an affordable $85 and includes two hours of sampling and a souvenir tasting glass to take home. VIP admission runs $125 and includes an additional 30 minutes before the main session, a private seating lounge, and access to exclusive rare whiskies. Tickets for both levels are available here.
Uniquely to Lively Water there will also be a whiskey cocktail session open to both general and VIP entrants. Bartenders from The Violet Hour, Untitled and Coppercraft Distillery will be leading some hands-on experience mixing drinks featuring whiskeys from the main event. As a cocktail nerd myself, I’m most looking forward to checking this out.
