Although the event will occur on April Fools’ Day, this is no joke, beer friends. Sheffield’s Beer & Wine Garden is hosting a very special event on April 1, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. (the message in the web post says 8 p.m. but they have confirmed that the start time is indeed 7 p.m.), as Founders Brewing’s legendary KBS will be tapped at Sheffield’s for the first time in 2014. This is Chicago KBS week, as the rare bourbon-barreled, coffee, chocolate, and oatmeal stout is being released throughout Chicago, fresh off its annual release at the Michigan brewery last week. As if the beer isn’t special enough – and it is – Founders’ owners and co-founders, Dave Engbers and Mike Stevens, will be on site to meet and greet beer lovers at Sheffield’s Beer School bar where the KBS will be tapped. Vintages of 2013 and 2014 KBS will be available, as will 2012 Founders Imperial Stout, which is superb when aged, plus several other Founders beers.
I recommend arriving early to get your share. You’ll especially want to try the 2013; KBS only improves with age and bottles of it are very hard to come by, so this will be a unique opportunity to try a year-old version, which will likely be silkier and even richer. Have a mini-vertical tasting! See you at Sheffield’s.
