Libations

Bourbon County Proprietor's & more!

November 28 2013 - 2:02 PM

So here comes Black Friday. It’s the season when the un-showered and red-eyed, languish at big box retailers waiting for deals on mid to low-end consumer goods. I can dig it and can even say that I scored an 88-weighted key electric piano for a penny… yes a penny. So that really means I must be awash in Karma. This year I’m in Chicago until Thursday and thus will miss the grand release. In spite of this I did land a couple of the blue-labeled coconut-infused Chicago-only bottles (so many hyphens and so much Karma). It’s likely to be a hard bottle to find but based on my conversations with Binny’s and other retailers, there is a lot of it in this town. That said, I can’t wait to see the upcoming reaction of New York beer geeks.

How does it taste? I don’t know! I’m waiting to crack a bottle but my resolve will break soon. Sheffield’s has a 2009 Bourbon County Stout on tap and it is stellar. This line in particular coming in at just under 15% (14% for this variant) starts out very hot but time mellows it out. Maybe I’ll write it up in a year or two!

The other variants are the 12oz. Barleywine, Coffee Stout, and regular as well as the 22oz big bottle Proprietor’s, and Backyard Rye. They’re pricey but if you’ve never tried them, buy them to share. Open one with dessert or after dinner. I really can’t wait to open this bottle. Really.
