Eat This: BFD Burger

By now, you’ve probably heard of the latest baked good craze, the “cronut”. If not, the cronut is exactly what it sounds like, a cross between a croissant and donut. The flaky, sweet baked good originally landed in New York’s Dominique Ansel Bakery back in May, but recently made its way to Chicago. Local shops including Gur Sweets Bakery, Chicago Pastry, La Boulangerie and Glazed and Infused have all followed suit, selling their own versions.

Although cronuts seem to be the latest baked good bonanza, donuts are still getting some love around the city. While there are plenty of places to get a tasty piece of fried dough (Glazed & Infused’s maple bacon long john, anyone?) there’s one place you should try a donut in an unsual format.
As part of Rockit Bar & Grill’s 8th annual Burger Fest, they are featuring the BFD, or “Breakfast for Dinner” Burger. This monster uses two Labriola glazed donuts instead of a bun, topped with a black angus patty, aged cheddar, bacon and a fried egg (in case that wasn’t enough protein). Glazed donuts act as the perfect burger canvas as the glaze melts into a syrupy glob. Aside from Burger Fest, the BFD Burger is usually offered during Rockit’s weekend brunch, but your heart would not recommend you making it a weekly ritual.
