Decoding Cocktails with Bittercube

With cocktails back in vogue, bartending classes are popping up all over. Unfortunately, most of them aren’t worth the time (or the dime). It’s a very different case, however, when Bittercube partners Nick Kosevich and Ira Koplowitz hold shop.

Kosevich and Koplowitz will be hosting Decoding Classic Cocktails at Nick’s Fishmarket Grill & Bar in Merchandise Mart this coming Monday, June 25. The class will cover the evolution of drinkers’ taste from classic to modern and will demonstrate how to craft original cocktails though variation. The price is $30 and includes some hands-on sampling. I plan to stop by and pick up a few pointers, so come say “Hi.”

If you aren’t familiar with Bittercube, the Milwaukee duo has roots in both Chicago (Koplowitz tended bar at The Violet Hour) and Minneapolis (Kosevich co-founded Town Talk Diner). Their collective experience tinkering with DIY libations behind the bar led to the creation of a line of original bitters flavors as well as restaurant and bar consultations throughout the Midwest.

The class is facilitated by Chicago startup, Dabble. Dabble brings together enthusiastic amateurs (as well as the occasional professional) to teach one-off classes on topics as wide ranging as arc welding, latte art, online dating and chicken ranching. Give these local guys some love if there’s something you’ve been dying to learn or teach.
