MI Wine Country to Recieve AOC Status - Apr. Fools
April 01 2012 - 10:52 AM
In an unprecedented move, the French wine commission has granted Traverse City, Michigan AOC status. This allows for wines from that region to sell at a premium across the world. Some say their winning this historically French designation is a strategic move to take power away from California's Napa Valley, a region some credit with the changing of French wine to a more "New World" style.
"Michigan doesn't produce the range of red varietals to be a threat to the French wine industry. This is a stunt" – says Marillyn Cosgrove from CA Wine Inc.
To which Jerry Bellweather replies, "We can augment our red cases with stouts aged in Cabernet barrels."
Do we need to say April Fools?
