Sweet 'N Salty Snack Mix Recipe

Snack_mixSometimes all you need is a little something sweet. You don’t want to put effort into baking something but you don’t want to resort to store bought sweets either. And you have tons of leftover Halloween candy. What to do…

Fortunately for me – and my office – I had such a predicament just last night. And I knew exactly how to fix it. When you have a sweet and salty craving, just make a snack mix, which basically means a combination of random snack foods you have lying around.

I personally have a weakness for caramel corn but it isn’t the healthiest (or most accessible) item. So, instead I whipped up my own creation. You can do the same with whatever you have in your cabinets. Here’s my recipe:

1 bag microwave popcorn
1 cup pretzels
¾ cup Reese’s Pieces
1 tbsp butter, melted
1.5 tbsp brown sugar
½ tsp cinnamon

All of these measurements can be adjusted based on what you like and what you have on hand. Simply pop the popcorn, and then stir in the pretzels and Reese’s Pieces. Next, melt the butter and mix in your brown sugar and cinnamon. Lightly drizzle the mix throughout the popcorn. If you’re making this for a party, or even a party of one, save some Reese’s to top off the mixture, since they easily sink to the bottom. I’m sure it would be much more delicious with a bit more brown sugar and butter, but let’s not get too out of hand, okay?

Any chopped up candy bar or M&Ms would be a great addition. If you’re looking for something a little more impressive, throw in some salted peanuts and Chex cereal to your popcorn, and then drizzle with melted chocolate. But beware: snack mix is as addictive as it is easy to make.
