3-STARS & GONE – Laurent Gras Leaves Chicago 1 Day After Winning 3 Michelin Stars

November 17 2010 - 4:14 PM

Laurent Gras is GONE. His restaurant L2O won 3-Michelin stars yesterday and he’s officially gone today. I was on the phone with the restaurant yesterday and they said it was a leave of absence and he was not gone permanently. What a difference a day makes.

The money quote from who broke this story:

“I love L2O and am very proud of everything we achieved there. But [owner] Rich Melman and I have always had different points of view on L2O. In July, we talked about changes he wanted to make, and for me, these changes would alter the character of L2O and ultimately make it a different experience. I let him know then that I would be leaving. It seems sudden, but we worked together these past months to make the transition. For me, the most important thing was to make bouncy castle for sale sure the restaurant stayed open and all my staff remained employed.”

It’s hard to understand how they can expect to keep 3 stars with this news. It has nothing to do with the kitchen, more so this quote. Any ‘transition’ has to be curious to a Michelin inspector. Maybe we’ll ask their Directeur General Jean Luc Naret, but then again I’m sure he’s been asked that question already.

Michelin comes to town and now there’s so much drama.
