Homegrown Herbs. It Doesn't Get Any More Local, Organic.

Basil 01

We all love fresh local, organic food
and
there's nothing more local than growing your own.  This ChicagoFoodie
lives on the 47th floor of a high-rise… so no matter what your
limitations… there is always something you can grow.  Herbs are the
easiest and because they're aromatic and full of flavor they're
incredibly satisfying to grow.  They also grow well indoors.  It's as
simple as 1-2-3.

(1) Buy some seeds (looking for the organic variety, I bought mine from Heirloom Acres Seeds)

(2) Get a pot and some soil.

(3)
Put your pot near natural light, follow the seed instructions and soon
you'll see your herbs come to life. If you can transfer them outdoors
great, if not continue growing them indoors.

The basil I grew took
three months from seed to leaf… and nothings more satisfying than
adding some fresh basil to your favorite pasta sauce when company arrives.
