Your Red Bicyclette Pinot May Actually Be Merlot!

Not that I can point to Bicyclette as a wine I often drink but just when you thought that sugar dosing and oak chipping were the only things to worry about, it turns out that the varietal may not be what it claims… From the San Francisco Chronicle

wine labeled as Pinot Noir that was nothing of the sort; it was
actually Merlot and Syrah. The defendants, vintners and co-ops in
southern France, were accused of distributing wine through Sieur
d’Arques, a large Languedoc wine merchant, that went into Gallo’s Red
Bicyclette label.

It does bear to note that I do really like bouncy castle for sale merlot but find the irony of that being one of the substitutes for pinot rather amusing considering the scene from Sideways.
