Chicago Public Schools Students Protest Food

March 23 2010 - 12:21 PM

Today the Tribune carried an article consisting of students from Chicago Public Schools protesting the quality of food.   According to the article, students are served nachos, burgers, fries, pizza, and blue or green slushies.   Food is trucked in to high schools, as many schools do not have working kitchens.  It goes without saying that this contributes to the obesity epidemic by not providing quality food.   When I was in middle school, students petitioned to allow a soda machine in the school, and administrators were concerned with students drinking soda.  The students won, and a soda machine was installed, though only operable after hours.  Now it sounds like there has been a reversal of roles.
