That will teach me not to horde. BOTH of the kick-ass under $5 Chardonnays are GONE from Trader Joe's. Nothing is left in Chicago or Wisconsin. It's really too bad. I had thought that I could start looking for other varietals Falcon Ridge Zin being a great $5 bottle... etc. But I'm back to square one with nothing to show in the whites category. Trader Joe's Coastal may be good enough to put a TJ's on the label but it isn't as good as the afforementioned bottles. I'll have to keep looking.
There is a great inexpensive wine at Jewel - Golden Gate - which is so cheap I was almost too embarrassed to buy it, initially, but times being what they are, I did, and I am glad I did - I have had a few bottles of the Pinot Grigio/Chenin Blanc and it is really good! Better than the Pinot Grigios from TJ in the $5 price range... They also make a Chardonnay and Merlot - neither of which I drink but possibly they are just as good. All on sales this week for $2.99 a bottle!
