Obama's Best Quote from "Check Please" Episode...?
This site is equally guilty in under-covering huge areas of Chicago's South and West sides. If there are diners out there who have recommendations– list them! I could truck on down and go to Izola's but they are one of the few establishments that get their share of press.

Lots of hype about an Obama southside food tour. Don't forget to tell readers about a great home-grown food tour of our own from Chicago Food Planet. If you like to eat, learn about the history and architecture of the tastiest areas, then I definitely recommend either the Bucktown/Wicker Park Food Tour or the Near North Food Tour. I've taken the both and my family and I agree there's just not a better way to circumnavigate Obama's hometown then eating your way through it. We found them at http://www.chicagofoodplanet.com/. Hope this helps, it's a great chicago tour!
Obama chose Dixie Kitchen in Hyde Park. When asked what he ordered for his meal, he gave an answer that only a politician could give. He said that he couldn't decide what to get, so he had the sampler platter. Just like a typical politician, he couldn't even make a definitive choice at his "favorite restaurant", so he went with the sampler. That was the funniest part of the entire episode.
Actually, every time I'm at Smoque I WISH they had a sampler platter... choosing between brisket, sausages, pulled pork, etc. that's tough. While I haven't had that experience at Dixie Kitchen, I can certainly understand it.

Thanks for the tip Lisa. I've heard good things about those tours but have never gone myself. It does underscore the excluded South side though, no?
