I’ve been to Rise Sushi and Sake Lounge on Southport a couple of times with large groups of people. Last time was no exception as there were 8 of us in our party. There were some things that Rise did well. The menu is extensive, which was appreciated by several in our group that were not interested in sushi. Specialty entrées, noodle dishes and small plates proved to be more than enough for the non-sushi lovers to choose from.
I had mixed feelings about the sushi, not finding it to be particularly good. My nigiri was not very flavorful and had a slight medicinal taste. The rice was somewhat dry and dense. But most of the people in our party ordered specialty Maki rolls that did not disappoint. Favorites included the Honey Roll with white tuna, cucumber and sesame honey sauce rolled in tempura crumbs as well as the Mexican Maki with yellowtail, avocado, cilantro, jalapeno and lime.
The décor is cool and contemporary and was very conducive to our large group. Rise did not have the best nigiri but overall delivered an enjoyable evening.

I have been to Rise sushi and I actually love it there! I had some salmon nigiri that I thought was delicious (maybe it depends on the day?) and the specialty maki rolls are excellent too! I had one with mango and white tuna and I just loved it.

Rise does do a great job handling larger parties, though. I felt like they treated our group of 8 like royalty - really good service. The appetizer specials were phenomenal.

The fundamental defect of fathers is that they want their children to be a credit to them.
