Uru-Swati: New Vegetarian Indian on Devon

September 06 2007 - 3:20 PM

Uru-Swati opened up a few months ago at 2629 Devon. It’s all vegetarian and really tasty. I was there in the afternoon for a late lunch and enjoyed the waiter’s willingness to explain everything on the menu. I ended up ordering the Tadka Dal and the Alu Jeera and the pre-req samosa to start.

Jeera was explained simply as a spice. It’s actually cumin seeds and
mixed with potatos and other seasoning tasted terrific. The dal was
also fragrant and filling. The best part was taking it home and turning
it into dinner for two as well. The portion size is very substantial
and the flavors are terrific.

Considering all the attention that goes to Mysore Woodlands, Arya
Bhavan and Udupi Palace I am very happy so far with Uru-Swati despite
the fact that there’s no Dosai (dosa, dose, thosai). The big crispy
bread.
